4 Reasons why your Bike Insurance claims could get rejected
India has the highest number of two-wheelers on road in the world.
At least one out of three families own a two-wheeler, either a bike or a scooter.
For many Indian families, the two-wheeler becomes a primary mode of transport.
As the maintenance cost of a two-wheeler is low, it is easier to afford one.
However, a higher number of two-wheelers on the road also increases the risk of
accidents and mishaps that could take place.
This is why it is always better to have yourself insured with a bike
insurance policy. If your bike gets damaged in an accident, the policy
will cover the cost of the repairs when you file a claim. At times, however,
your claim might get rejected by the insurer. Given below are 4 of the most
common reasons as to why your bike insurance claim could get rejected:
1.
Using an expired policy
Your bike insurance policy comes with an expiry date. It is always
better to renew your policy before the expiry date to avoid paying an increased
premium amount. However, due to some reason if you are not able to renew your
policy and your bike gets damaged, and you file a claim against your policy,
then that claim would get rejected immediately. This is due to the fact that as
your policy has expired, your insurer is no longer liable to provide you the
financial coverage you would get with a valid policy. So, always renew your
policy before the expiry date.
2.
Involved in illegal activities
Miscreants and anti-social elements tend to use bikes to conduct
illegal activities. These activities include illegal bike racing,
transportation of drugs or weapons, theft and robberies. If you are involved in
any such activity and your bike gets damaged in the process, and if you file a
claim and there is evidence incriminating your involvement in such an activity,
then your claim will get rejected. Similarly, if you have lent your bike to someone
who is involved in an illegal activity and it gets damaged from their hand,
then also your claim will get rejected by your bike insurance provider. As a
responsible citizen and bike owner, it would benefit you to stay away from such
activities, and to never lend your bike to anyone involved in them.
3.
Delay in filing your claim
Bike insurance companies usually provide a certain period during
which you are supposed to file in the event of an accident. However, if you do
not file claim during that given window, and were to file a claim after that
window is over, then your insurer will reject your claim. For example, if your
bike gets damaged in an accident, and your insurer has a claim filing period of
15 days, but, you forgot to file your claim in that period, and you file a
claim a little late, then your claim will get rejected. But, some insurers
might make an exception under some circumstances and might except your claim.
Do discuss this with your insurer.
