4 Add-ons that you should include in your Bike Insurance

Bikes are one of the most common modes of transportation for many, especially in India. There are, however, many risks involved due to the increasing number of vehicles on the road. This has led to a rise in the number of road accidents, which in turn, has made it even more important to have bike insurance.

While there are benefits that you get from your basic insurance policy, you get additional benefits when you opt for comprehensive bike insurance. One such additional benefit is the inclusion of add-ons in your policy. And, listed below are 4 add-ons that you need to have in your bike insurance:

1.      NCB protection cover

If you don’t make any claim during the term year of your bike insurance policy, then your insurer provides you a discount on your premium payment for the next term. This is discount is known as a no-claim bonus. You get an initial discount of 20%, and it goes up to 50% if no claim is made for 5 years. However, if you file a claim, then that bonus is lost, and you do not get any discount on your next premium payment. But, with the help of the NCB protection cover add-on, the discount will not be lost even if you file for a claim during the term year of your policy.

2.      Zero depreciation cover

One of the deciding factors that determine the claim amount you are entitled to, is the age of your bike. As the age of your bike increases, its market value decreases. A lower depreciation value means a lower claim amount for your bike. So, if your bike gets damaged and you file a claim, then the insurer will pay you a claim amount that could be less than expected and not enough to cover the cost of the repairs. This is why you should include the zero depreciation cover add-on in your bike insurance. If you file a claim in the event your bike is damaged in an accident, then having the zero depreciation cover in your insurance policy means that the insurer will pay the full claim amount for the repairs of your bike without taking the depreciation value of your bike.

3.      Emergency roadside assistance

You, as a bike owner, cannot predict when your bike could face a problem and stop functioning abruptly. So, for example, if you are out for work and are riding your bike, but it suddenly stops working in the middle of the road, then what do you do? You will have to push your bike to the nearest garage to get it repaired, which could be too much of a task. However, if you have the emergency roadside assistance add-on in your bike insurance, then you will get prompt help from your insurer in the event of such an emergency. Services in roadside assistance include mechanical or electrical repairs of your bike, refueling, refilling of the air in your bike’s tires, and so on.
